How it works
A year‑round investment service and a year‑round tax service. Take one, take the other, or take both and let them work together. Here is what’s inside each.
Service one
We start by building your financial plan, then I manage your portfolio against it. The plan isn’t a separate purchase — it’s where the investment work begins.
A plan built around your actual life, not a binder you file away. We start with where you are and where you’re headed — paying down debt and saving for a first home in your thirties, funding college and catching up on retirement mid‑career, deciding when to retire and how to draw income later on. It tells us what your money actually has to do.
The plan decides where you’re going. The portfolio is how you get there. When your life changes the plan changes, and the portfolio follows.
I build and manage a portfolio around your goals and how much risk you can live with — diversified, kept in balance as markets move, and adjusted as your life changes. Because I also see your tax return, I can do it tax‑smart: harvesting losses when markets dip, and holding the right investments in the right accounts. One strategy, across every account you own.
How it’s billed: a percentage of the assets I manage for you. Your financial plan is included, and it’s revisited as your life changes — not billed again.
Service two
Most people hear from their preparer once a year, after everything is already decided. We’ll talk while the decisions can still change the outcome — then I prepare and file the return that reflects them.
The moves that lower your bill happen long before April. That might mean optimizing your benefit selections during open enrollment, timing the sale of company stock to manage your tax bracket, or sequencing Roth conversions to hold down future RMDs and Medicare surcharges. I’m looking ahead all year, not after the fact, so we can still make the right moves for your family.
These two feed each other. What we decide in June shows up on the return in April, and what that return tells us sets up the following June.
I prepare and file every return myself, with your whole picture already in front of me. Federal and state, multi‑state if you’ve moved or work across lines, quarterly estimates so April doesn’t surprise you, and the entity filings and S‑corp elections if you have a business. When it’s done, I’ll walk you through it — so you understand what happened and why, not just what you owe.
How it’s billed: a fixed annual fee, set by the complexity of your situation and quoted before you sign anything. It covers the planning conversations and the return itself.
Most people start with the more pressing need — the return that’s coming due, or the accounts that need attention. Some add the other service later, once we know each other. Some never do, and that’s fine too.
Either way, it’s the same person doing the work — and if I don’t think you need the rest, I’ll say so.
That’s what the first call is for. Tell me what you’ve got going on — your taxes, your investments, or both — and I’ll tell you where I’d start. No pitch, no paperwork, no obligation.
